What is a brow lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, tightens the tissues of the forehead to create a more youthful contour to the forehead, upper eyelids, and eyebrows. This can help to correct signs of aging for a boost in confidence.
Are you a good candidate for a brow lift?
With age, it is common to begin seeing wrinkles on your forehead. Unfortunately, these frown lines can make you look angry without meaning to. The sagging skin could also make you seem tired, as the upper eyelids are hooded by the eyebrows. If this sounds like you and you have realistic expectations from surgery, you may be an ideal brow lift candidate. A consultation with Dr. Bohley in Portland can help to best determine if a brow lift is right for you.
What can I expect during and after my procedure?
Due to Dr. Bohley’s advanced surgical expertise and outstanding surgical record, the risk of complications is very slim.
Most surgeons use one of two incision options for the brow lift, which include the endoscopic technique and the coronal technique. During an endoscopic brow lift, the surgeon uses an endoscope (a long, thin tube attached to a video camera) for adjusting tissue and muscle through tiny incisions on your forehead. The other is a coronal incision, where an incision is made from ear to ear within the hair-bearing skin. This incision offers the surgeon a clear view of the surgical site when he is adjusting muscle and tissue. Both brow lift techniques are safe and effective options for natural looking results. A consultation can help to determine which surgical technique can help achieve your individual aesthetic goals. Dr. Bohley works to create incisions in the most inconspicuous locations possible so they are virtually invisible.
What will be my recovery from the brow lift?
Following surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and numbness, which can be reduced with cold packs. Patients should sleep with their back and head elevated for 5-7 days to reduce swelling. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Recovery from a brow lift varies from patient to patient, but most return to normal activity within three to four weeks. The sutures and staples are removed within a week post-surgery. Patients should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity during recovery, with exercise able to be resumed after about a month. Final results should be evident after six months.
Most patients near Vancouver, Washington enjoy rapid recoveries and remarkable results under Dr. Bohley’s comforting care. You may feel reduced sensation in your scalp and some numbness for up to a year post surgery.
What will be my results like?
Once the incisions in the scalp and hairline heal completely, you will be able to see your final results. This will be about six months after surgery. Even though age may affect your results, the severity of the frown lines and wrinkles will be improved. Protecting your skin from sun damage, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and visiting your surgeon’s office for scheduled follow-up appointments can help you enjoy your results permanently.
