What is Breast Augmentation?
There are a variety of reasons why women choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery. Some may want to enhance the volume of their breasts, while others may wish to correct breast asymmetry. Breast augmentation can help to correct these problems using a selection of techniques.
Types of Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery can be done using a natural breast augmentation or breast implants. Natural Breast Augmentation is best for patients who wish to subtly enhance the size of their breasts, while also contouring another area of the body. Liposuction is used to removed excess fat cells from another area of the body, such as the hips, thighs, buttocks, or abdomen. These cells are then purified and re-injected into the breasts for enhanced volume.
Breast implants are often used in Hood River for breast argumentation surgery. There are two main types of breast implants: saline and silicone. Saline implants are made with a silicone shell and are filled with a sterile saltwater solution. Silicone implants are made with a silicone shell and are filled with a silicone gel. Silicone implants feel and look most like natural breast tissue. A consultation with Dr. Bohley can help to best determine which type of breast augmentation method is right for your individual aesthetic goals.
Implant Incision Options
When undergoing breast augmentation using implants, there are an array of incisions that can be used. In Hood River, Dr. Bohley uses three main incision patterns for breast augmentation. These include:
Periareolar Incision- This incision is made around the circumference of the areola. For women who are concerned with a change in nipple sensation or are interested in breastfeeding after surgery, this incision option may not be a good choice. However, other women do choose this incision pattern due to the scar being well concealed in the areola skin.
Inframammary Incision- This incision pattern is made under the breast fold. It offers minimal risk of change in nipple sensation. However, this incision scar is more visible than other patterns.
Transaxillary Incision- This incision is made in the armpit, which means there is no scarring involved on the breasts. It works best for placing saline implants that are filled after they are placed in the breast pocket.
